Exclusive Access Sharjah Sir Bu Nair Island Opens to Visitors with Free Sea Trips

Exclusive Access Sharjah Sir Bu Nair Island Opens to Visitors with Free Sea Trips

For the first time ever, the untouched beaches of Sir Bu Nair Island are accessible to the public. The Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority announced the exciting news. The special access is part of the final events of the Sir Bu Nair Festival, in which free sea trips are being offered that will occur on October 25. This island, 112 kilometers off the coast, is one of Sharjah’s largest natural reserves and is a flagship project to create a luxury destination that combines modern elegance with rich local heritage.

Experience Sharjah’s Hidden Natural Sanctuary

For the first time in history, Sir Bu Nair Island is accessible to everyone. The Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority has made the exciting announcement. This limited access is part of the concluding events of the Sir Bu Nair Festival free sea excursions on the 25th of October. This island is an immensely important protected reserve in Sharjah.

Did you know? Sir Bu Nair is unique in that it has a distinctive horseshoe shape. Additionally, it is also a major sanctuary for endangered hawksbill and green sea turtles.

A Pristine Reserve 112km Offshore

Sir Bu Nair is indeed distant: 112 kilometers off the Sharjah coast. The island, which is four kilometers long, is part of a flagship project by Shurooq. The aspiration is to create a luxury destination that will marry modern comfort with significant regional heritage—meaningfully. The island is only accessible to the public once a year for a festival, and this year’s island events are on October 24 and 25.

Unmatched Marine Biodiversity

The island is rich and stunning in its natural environment. It provides a variety of landscapes and unspoiled white sandy beaches. The surrounding turquoise water is full of life, with over 76 coral fish species and more than 40 varieties of coral reefs. The redcoat fish is also established here, a species that had not been previously recorded in the Arabian Gulf. The island is a critical wildlife refuge.

The Festival Two Locations, One Celebration

This year marks the unique 25th edition of the festival, which takes place at two locations for the first time in the festival’s rich history. Visitors can enjoy festival activities at Al Heera Beach, located in Sharjah City. These activities will run from October 16 to 25. The second, and primarily exclusive, festival location is Sir Bu Nair Island itself. This unique format brings the spirit of the island to the mainland. While also inviting visitors to head out over 100 km in the other direction to the Gulf.

Exclusive Island Activities (October 24–25)

Of course, the island experience is packed with exclusive events:

  • Guided Nature Tours: Visitors can take a guided exploration of the protected natural reserve.
  • Marine Experiences: Snorkeling at the coral farm will be offered, among other activities.
  • Conservation component: Visitors can take a hands-on coral restoration workshop.
  • Unique marine adventures: Water biking and kayaking are just two of many offered.
  • Night Sky Experience: Talks will be conducted around astronomy and observed at night.
