The driving distance for a Dubai to Muscat private car trip ranges between 450 and 480 kilometers, depending on your final drop-off destination. The most efficient and popular path is our primary route via the Hatta border. Your driver will take the E611 (Emirates Road) out of Dubai straight toward Hatta, crossing into Oman at the Al Wajajah checkpoint. From there, you will cruise comfortably along the modern Oman Expressway through Sohar and directly into Muscat, taking about 5 to 6 hours in total.
If you are traveling from Southern regions, we have another route for you through Al Ain and Buraimi that is approximately 550 – 580 km and will take 6 – 7 hours of driving time. Therefore, our professional drivers are knowledgeable of all of the roads and will provide you with the best possible route in conjunction with live traffic information and live border waiting times.

For the best experience of this road trip, we recommend planning to do this trip from October through April when the weather is very mild. In the summer, temperatures often soar above 45°C and can make traveling around noon extremely uncomfortable. It is a good idea to schedule your departure for 6:00 AM to avoid both commuter traffic in the city and to beat the long lines at the border during peak times.
When packing your bags, check that your passport has at least 6 months before it expires and bring a copy of your e-visa to Oman. While you will be able to use credit and debit cards for most transactions, it is a great idea to take some cash in either UAE dirhams or Omani rials for minor emergencies or for purchasing snacks on the side of the road. Don’t forget to bring your sunglasses, your charger for your phone, and your light jacket to keep you warm from the cold air from the car air conditioning.
